Condo safety: Of the older buildings due for checkups last year, only one in five certified safe (FL)

A Sun Sentinel analysis shows just how far behind Broward County cities fell on their condo safety checks in the year before the Surfside collapse.  In its first-ever audit of its 2006 building recertification law, Broward County collected data on condominiums six stories and taller turning 40 or 50 years old in 2020. Engineers fear collapsed Miami condo may have lacked reinforced steel

Residents allowed to move back home after Kissimmee condo makes repairs (FL)

After weeks of repairs, evacuated tenants can now move back home to their Kissimmee condo buildings.  Osceola County spokesperson Chris Brumbaugh said in a statement Wednesday that temporary repairs have been completed at two buildings under Images Condominium Association. Building evacuated due to structural issues (FL)

A four-unit building on Sixth Avenue was voluntarily evacuated on July 15 after a repairman noticed structural issues with the balconies.  Building Official Neal Schwartz said that the issues at the building at 3400 Sixth Ave. could lead to a collapse, but that they were discovered before any other damage occurred. Florida condo managers take notice of renovations at Jacksonville Beach high-rise

Along Duval County’s beaches, there are five residential buildings that are more than 30 years old and stand more than 100 feet tall.  They are Pelican Point, Pablo Towers, The Waterford, Ocean 14 and Seascape.  News4Jax is working to find out when they were last inspected and if any issues were found.
